Top Restaurants in Penistone

A big question when finding a holiday cottage in Yorkshire is “are there enough places to eat nearby?” After all it’s not much of a holiday if someone’s always doing the cooking – or the washing up. So we’re delighted our luxury cottages are all within easy reach of the picturesque market town of Penistone. With Italian, Indian and bistro dining, there’s a wealth of great restaurants in Penistone. Here are some of our favourites.

Vault Bistro

Part Bistro, part speakeasy bar, the Vault is one of the most sophisticated restaurants in Penistone. It is the place to go for small plates, hanging skewers and tapas. Again local produce and premium suppliers rule.

They’re proud of their cocktails too, with a team of mixologists just itching to craft anything from a classic Old Fashioned to a Hugo St. Germain Spritz. Or drop in for a weekend brunch – perhaps buttermilk pancakes, halloumi and avocado or eggs royale. Handily, it’s served till 1pm.

Find the Vault in St Mary’s Street. It’s open evenings Wednesday to Friday, plus mornings/daytimes Saturday and Sunday. The speakeasy bar has longer opening hours.

New Inn

It took four years to revamp the New Inn after a major fire, but this former rail house is now firmly back on the radar of local diners as one of the best restaurants in Penistone.

The vibe here is British-inspired pub classic, so expect excellent fish and chips, steak and ale pie, hunters chicken and gammon steak. As well as stone-baked pizzas, vegan and gluten free dishes, charcuterie boards burgers and dirty fries..

A lot of the food is locally sourced, there’s a children’s menu, a wide range of real ales and dogs are welcome too.

The New Inn, in Bridge Street, is open daily for lunch and evening meals.

Café Crème

One of the best day time restaurants in Penistone, family-run Café Crème specialises in fabulous home-made food. What’s more most of the dishes and all of the cakes come in gluten-free and dairy-free versions.

They source as many ingredients locally as they can. Breakfasts feature meat and sausages from the local Penistone butcher. The fair-trade coffee beans come from the Yorkshire Coffee Company. The teacakes are from Cottage Bakery at Silkstone Common. And the cakes are all homemade.

Café Crème is open from 8.30/9.30am to 3/4pm, Monday to Saturday.

Ti Amo

The full flavours of the Med can be found at Ti Amo. This welcoming Italian eatery in Thurlstone Road is one of the best restaurants in Penistone. It’s a firm favourite with families thanks to its range of great dishes and reasonable prices.

Expect all the Italian classics, from bruschetta and arancini, via lasagna, gnocchi and a wealth of pasta, to home made pizzas. Their seafood is particularly acclaimed – including calamari, lobster ravioli, scallops and monkfish in a creamy sauce.

Ti Amo is open for lunch and dinner, Tuesday to Sunday.

Taste of India

The Taste of India is another locals’ favourite. They’ve been rustling up fine cuisine here for some 37 years – and it’s one of the most popular Indian restaurants in Penistone. Staff pride them selves on a friendly welcome, speedy service, great value and fine food.

House specials include a range of tikka, podina, thalia and handi dishes, as well as spicy tik tak and achari plates. Look out for the Thursday Special – a three course meal for only £12.95.

Set in Bridge Street, the Taste of India is open for evening meals Tuesday to Sunday.
