Great days out for the family

Now the summer is approaching and family staycations are so much more popular after the recent pandemic, keeping the children occupied while you’re away is more of a challenge. Our luxury cottages are situated in such a beautiful area so we have plenty of outdoor activities close by for the whole family to enjoy. From shorter walks, to more adventurous days out, there is plenty to see not too far away. The Peak District is also so close to all of our lovely cottages, with miles of stunning open countryside waiting to be explored.

You can visit our website to see our full list of things to do nearby, but here are some of our favourites that are closest to our cottages:

Langsett Reservoir

Langsett reservoir is a beautiful circular walk very close to all of our cottages only being a 5/10 minute drive away. Roughly 2-3 miles long there is a parking area, with a mixture of trees, rivers and open countryside to see. There are some beautiful spots to set up for a family picnic and play some games, or if you and your family are keen walkers, you can walk from Langsett reservoir right over the moors to Ladybower reservoir which is a much longer walk but with fantastic views.

Cannon Hall

Cannon Hall also being one of the closest places to visit, is great for younger children. It is a beautiful country park in the lovely village of Cawthorne and has so much to do you may need to visit more than once!  As well as just walking around the park feeding the ducks, you can enter the farm and see all the animals, it has a farm shop, café and restaurant, as well as a dog friendly café! There is a lovely garden centre with a Bistro next door, and the newest addition is The Little Boat Company on the lake.

Penistone Paramount

Penistone Paramount is a wonderful and traditional cinema with only one screen in the centre of Penistone, having viewings of mainstream films as well as theatre performances and concerts. It is one of very few to still have intervals to grab an ice cream and a drink from the bar. A great place to visit if the weather is poor, there are plenty of lovely and delicious cafes and restaurants in Penistone if you wanted to have lunch or dinner before or after your visit.

Ingbirchworth Ice Cream Parlour

Who doesn’t love ice cream? Yummy Yorkshire is an ice cream parlour in Ingbirchworth, only a short drive away, with a café and a restaurant. It has a small playground and has regular and various markets with so many local suppliers to see. It has more flavours of ice cream than you can imagine and also has lovely views of the countryside being situated at the top of the village.

Underbank Reservoir

Underbank Reservoir is one for the water lovers! Within walking distance from 2 of our cottages in Stocksbridge and only a very short drive away from the others, the activity centre here is open for mini and family adventures on and off water from kayaking to climbing. It also has the option of self-launch, so you are able to use the facilities and launch your own vessel, whether that be a kayak, canoe or paddle board.

So head on out and enjoy our wonderful area with the whole family, hopefully you may even get nice weather for your adventures!
